
Originating in ancient China, Dragon Boat is now the fastest growing water sport in the world and a favorite among charities and corporations for its fundraising and team-building benefits. Dragon boating is a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping, collaborative, and team-building water sports activity.

A human-powered, large canoe-like vessel fitted with ornately carved dragon's head and tail. Steering controlled with a large ore off the back of the vessel. The boat seats 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steer-person at the back of the boat.
What is a Dragon Boat?
Dragonflyers of Michigan’s on the water training begins in late April or early May until mid-October (weather permitting). Dragonflyers of Michigan also offers 8-week sessions during May – October and weekend paddling events.
When is the Dragon Boat season?

We practice on a reservoir between Holt and Mason and have private access to a property located at 1284 N Cedar St, Mason, MI 48854.

What is supplied for paddlers?
A dragon boat, paddles, life vests, and additional on the water training equipment. Fun, laughter, camaraderie, teamwork, fitness education, and knowledge of the sport.
Bring a water bottle, sunglasses, a cap with a brim or visor, floating eyeglass strap, and apply water-proof/resistant sunscreen if it’s sunny.
Wear quick-dry fabrics or water-resistant clothing. You may wish to wear water-resistant shoes or footwear that fastens behind the heel. Flip flops and bare feet are NOT recommended in the boat.

Is experience needed?
All fitness levels and backgrounds are welcome! The great thing about dragon boating is that anyone can join who has an interest in learning more about dragon boating.
Dragon boating and rowing are both water sports, but they come from different traditional backgrounds. Rowing has its history in the West, while Dragon boating is based on traditions from the East. Rowers sit in single file in boats referred to as 'shells' with their backs to the direction of travel and row with oars. Dragon boaters sit in two rows of 10 and face forward using paddles to propel forward using an “A-frame" type stroke.
